Rio 2016 Summer Olympics football host cities and stadiums

The Rio Summer Olympics football sport is on its 29th edition because the first football competition in any Summer Olympics Edition was in the 1904 Olympics. The 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio has the men football matches scheduled to start from the 4th of August and end on the 20th of August. This will be the same for the women football matches too. There are 16 qualified men teams set for the Summer Olympics and 12 women teams will also feature in the Rio 2016 women football sport.

Key football nations including host Brazil and others from across the world will be at the home of football fighting each other for a chance to get that coveted Olympics gold medal in the football sport.

Rio 2016 Summer Olympics football host cities and stadiums are:

Rio de Janeiro

Rio de Janeiro is only City providing two stadiums for the Football sport during the 2016 Summer Olympics. These are Maracanã Stadium and the Estádio Nilton Santos.

Rio’s Maracanã Stadium is the main stadium for the entire Olympics Games in 2016. Besides it will be a venue for two football matches, first a semifinal match on the 17th of August at 1.00 PM and the final football match or the Gold Medal Match on the 20th of August.

Estádio Nilton Santos will host 4 Group D matches and these Group D matches are as follows: 4th August two Group D matches, with the first match kicking off 3.00PM and the other at 6.00 PM while the last 2 matches for Group D to be played at Estádio Nilton Santos on the 7th of August at 3.00PM 6.00 PM

Brasília

The capital city of the 2016 Summer Olympics host nation Brasília’s Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha will be a venue for the following matches.

On the 4th of August, there will be two Group A matches, first at 1.00 PM, while the host Brazil will fight it out at the same Stadium the same day at 4.00 PM.

3 days later, Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha will be the venue for two Group A matches, at 7.00 PM while the host will also play their second Group A match at the same stadium at 10.00PM

Beside Group A matches, Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha will host one Group C match on 10th of August at 7.00 PM, while earlier on the day, at 1.00 PM it will have been a venue for a Group D match.

The last match for the 2016 Summer Olympics Football Sport to be played at at Estádio Nacional de Brasília Mané Garrincha will be a quarter final match at 1.00 PM on the 13th of August at 1.00PM.

Manaus

The Amazon located and isolated city of Manaus will also host some of the matches for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics Football Sport. It will host 4 group matches for Group C at the Arena da Amazônia. These Group C matches are, a 6.00 PM and a 9.00 PM Group C Match on the 4th of August, while 3 days later on the 7th August two more Group C matches will take place at 6,00 PM and 9.00 PM

São Salvado

São Salvado’s Itaipava Arena Fonte Nova will host a total of 7 matches for the knockout stage as well as other qualifying matches for the 2016 Summer Olympics football sports.

Itaipava Arena Fonte in São Salvado will be like the home stadium for the Group C matches as it will host most of the group matches.

The first Group C matches in this stadium will be on the 4th of August with the first starting at 5.00 PM and the other at 8.00 PM.

On 7th August, Itaipava Arena Fonte will host other two Group C matches with the first one kicking off at 1.00 PM and the other at 4.00PM.

Besides Group C matches, the same stadium will host a Group B match on the 10th August starting at 7.00PM, while host Brazil will settle it out with fellow team from Group A at Itaipava Arena Fonte on the same day at 10.00PM.

Salvador final football match for the 2016 Summer Olympics will be a quarter finals on the 13th of August at 4.00 PM.

São Paulo

The Brazil’s most populous city; São Paulo will host a total of 4 matches at the City’s Arena Corinthians. This great city’s stadium, 2 group matches will be played on the 10th of August. The first of those matches will be a Group B match at 7.00 PM, while the second match for the day will be a Group A match between host Brazil and another Group A team at 10.00 PM.

The other two final matches are a quarter final matches on the 13th of August and a semifinal match on the 17th of August.

Belo Horizonte

The sixth largest city Belo Horizonte’s Mineirão Stadium will host the following football matches.

The first match will be a Group D match which will be played on the 10th of August at 1.00 Pm while on the same day Group C match will be played at 7.00PM.

Three days later, Estádio Mineirão will host one quarter final match that will be played on the 13th of August at 7 PM. The people of Belo Horizonte will also witness one of the semifinal matches scheduled for 17th August at 1.00 PM in the Estádio Mineirão.

It is at the Estádio Mineirão that the Rio 2016 Bronze match will be played, what a great honor to the people of Belo Horizonte. This will be the second final match for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics and will be played on the 20th of August at 1.00PM
